Denial! Denial! Me? Diabetic?

Denial! Denial! Me? Diabetic?
The first sugar test I underwent was not really planned. My ministry then offered a FREE Blood Sugar & Blood Pressure Testing. Before doing it to people who went to our ministry center, the volunteer asked me if I want my glucose level be tested. Without a doubt, I agreed. To my surprise, the reading was more than 200. The volunteer told me that am already diabetic. I refused! And I kiddingly said, "I only have high sugar level because of my eating lifestyle." The first thing I expereinced was the point of denial. It took me a year before accepting the fact that I am diabetic.
Continuing with the ministry, I have had some muscle crumps & numbness while prayer walking in the community. I really had to stop for a while and massage my muscles before I proceed. Again, I told myself, I am not diabetic, it just the effect of too much walking. Denial.
I started to realize how thirsty I am after delivering God's message on the pulpit. My mouth went sticky with dry saliva, and I begin bringing water over to ease the dryness. I watered too often that I have to wake up more than 3 times to got to the comfort room. Again I said, "I only have high blood sugar level. Am not diabetic!" Denial again.
I believe that most of diabetic patients had undergone the stage of denial. Who would want to be diagnosed as such? No one. It may come shocking and traumatic to some when the knowledge of becoming one of the carrier of the "sweet disease" has been told by your doctor. And most would deny this fact. Am one of them.
Now, after 10 years of knowing that I have high blood sugar level, may I say to everyone, I am diabetic! The Lord has taught me to depend more on Him. He showed me the way to accepting the situation and realizing that He is in control. I will be diabetic for life, but I will be a diabetic serving the Master with all of my life.
As the Word says, "And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith toward the Son of God, the One loving me and giving Himself over on my behalf(Galatians 2:20).

ARE YOU A DIABETIC?

Are you a Diabetic?
I was made to believe when I was a child that my Mom conceived me in her womb drinking softdrinks or cola. Therefore, I thought it was OK for me to drink cola with the thought I am already immune to whatever negative effects it will do to my health. Since my childhood; elementary till college, I was a cola drinker. I seldom skip cola as a refreshment. Instead, softdrink is a regular part of my meal.
It was also in childhood days that my parent set my mind that it's better to eat more rice than the viand (ulam). So, I ate rice, double if not triple, more than other courses. More carbohydrates. More sugar intake.
That was my lifestyle. Cola & rice in every meal.
Accidentally, or should I say God willing, a free blood sugar testing was held and I volunteered to have me tested. I was 30 years old then. A shocking truth made me numb. My blood sugar level was more than 250 (normal is from 80-100). I am diabetic which I denied. I went on by saying, "I only have high blood sugar level but am not diabetic."
Years have passed. I have accepted the truth. I am a diabetic. I am now taking medication to maintain my blood sugar. I loosen up with cola & double rice serving. Though I still drink softdrink once in a while for special occassion and eat just a cup of rice; extra is very seldom. I have a beautiful family; a loving wife and four wise kids. I want to live longer for them. There were so many testimonies about diabetis complications. A lot of people have died due to this very unwanted disease. I know that one day, this will affect my life yet I do not bother. Whether in life or death, I will strive to give glory to the Almighty God.

Ten (10) Effects of Diabetes

Ten (10) Effects of Diabetes

  1. Muscle Cramps. Ouch! You'll stop walking or running if this one gets on your way.
  2. Internal organs breaking up. It's too complicated. And it will be complicated if you will not take this part seriously.
  3. Sleepy. Hooo..hum...
  4. Sex life? some says, it will be affected. I don't think so. (just make sure it's between you and your wife.)
  5. Hypertension. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! Hey, always have your blood pressure checked.
  6. Always thirsty. If you talk a lot and you don't drink any liquid, you'll end up buiding sticky saliva in your mouth.
  7. Frequent peeing. It does hurt with your leg muscles if you don't find a comfort room soon.
  8. Tingling Nerve. Sometimes you'll thought there's always bed mites or ants on your couch or bed.
  9. Easily get tired. You may not be catching your breath but it seems you'll never get to the finish line.
  10. Death. Don't you worry, we're still alive. But don't expect longer life than the others.

Let's make our move now towards a healthy lifestyle.
